NRI? Recover Your Family's Indian Shares, Deposits and Insurance — Without Travelling

For Indians living abroad, the hardest part of claiming a parent's investments is rarely the claim itself — it is getting documents signed, attested and accepted by Indian institutions from thousands of kilometres away, often for several heirs in different countries. Expertvuw runs the India side of the process so that you do not have to fly back.

What we cover

How documents work from abroad

  • Apostille or consular attestation: documents signed abroad are apostilled (in Apostille-convention countries) or attested at the Indian Embassy or Consulate. Consulate fees are published — for example, US$20 per executant plus a $2 welfare fee for a power of attorney at the Indian Embassy in Washington, and £18 at the High Commission in London.
  • Overseas death certificates: under SEBI's 2026 transmission framework, foreign death certificates can be certified through banks for share claims.
  • Power of attorney: where appropriate, a family member in India can act for you under a specific power of attorney.
  • Receiving the money: claims are paid to the heir's own NRO or resident account; shares go to the heir's demat account (NRE/NRO as applicable).
  • Repatriation: RBI allows NRIs to remit up to USD 1 million per financial year from NRO balances, including inherited assets, after applicable taxes (Form 15CA/15CB through a chartered accountant).

How we work

  1. Video-call case review with the family, in your time zone.
  2. We prepare every form and affidavit and send you a signing pack with clear instructions for attestation or apostille.
  3. Documents come back by courier; we file with each institution in India and follow up.
  4. Credits go directly to your NRO/NRE/demat accounts; we coordinate the tax and repatriation paperwork with a chartered accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to come to India?

In most cases, no. Institutions accept documents signed abroad when properly attested or apostilled.

Can the money be sent abroad?

Yes, within RBI's limit of USD 1 million per financial year from NRO accounts, after taxes, with Form 15CA/15CB.

Several of us live in different countries. Is that a problem?

No. Each heir signs where they live; we coordinate one consistent set of documents.
