Under IRDAI's rules, any amount due to a policyholder — maturity, death claim, survival benefit or refund — becomes "unclaimed" if it is not paid within 6 months of falling due. The insurer keeps it, adds investment income, and after 10 years transfers it to the Senior Citizens' Welfare Fund, from where it can still be claimed through the insurer for 25 years.
LIC alone reported ₹7,318.5 crore of unclaimed amounts as of 31 March 2026, according to the Government's reply in Parliament.
Yes. Every insurer must offer a free search on its website (by name and date of birth, with policy number or PAN optional). LIC's is on licindia.in. If the policy is in your name or you are the registered nominee with the policy document, the insurer's claim form is usually enough.
We trace the policy, confirm the amount and the insurer's requirements, prepare the claimant statement, indemnity and heirship documents, and follow up with the branch until the amount is paid into the claimant's own account. We do not sell insurance and never ask for policy proceeds to be paid to us.
Use the unclaimed-amounts search on licindia.in with the policyholder's name and date of birth (policy number and PAN help). Private insurers have similar pages.
Yes. Insurers accept an indemnity or loss-of-policy declaration in place of the bond.
Unclaimed amounts move to the Senior Citizens' Welfare Fund after 10 years but can still be claimed through the insurer for 25 years after that.
Be careful — IRDAI has warned about such calls. Check directly with the insurer. Genuine claims are paid only by the insurer into your own bank account.
